Hey i'm new to ice fishing and after buying all the gear i would like to go to cooks bay this sunday(feb3). can one of you vetrans tell me if it will be safe(i don't know if this snow is good or bad for the ice), and whom is available for hut rental... i called Gilford Bait and Tackle and the number was not in sevice. i'm not looking for anything fancy... in fact i'd like somthing cheap and basic for me and 1 or 2 friends. i hope i'm not to late to get a hut for sunday, but it seems like all the hut pages i find on the internet are from 2005. if i cannot find a hut rental or if i get adventureous is it possible to buy a hand auger and explore/fish?
Any help would would be fantastic, cause i don't think i can make it to the spring without fishing

Hello Kalipso ...welcome to the board and icefishing ..its a lot of fun...for a hut try Love2Fish simcoe ( http://www.lovetofishsimcoe.com/ )...they are on the Home page ...good people good service. As you mentioned Gilford I am guessing you want to be on the west side of cooks bay. Now the snow...ur rite it doesnt help the ice but it was windy so much of it may have blown off ...and the ice is pretty good in the bay so i think u can relax there and enjoy...just call em i am sure they can help ya out .. 705 456 8745 ...they have bait and all the things you may need as well ..hooks jiggs etc and always good advice...and a ride out to the hut ...i dont think they got tv in hut tho...just kiddin ...lol...if you need more help yell we 'll try steer you in rite direction. good luck and let us know how u make out ...

| yes sure u can wander around ... theres some etiquette on the ice too ...courtesy idea ,,,,dont drill beside someones huts and cuz u see a guy catch a fish drill rite beside him ....give him some elbow and line room under the ice his fish can go all over ....make sure u have your fishing licence with you as well
