We're going out with Floyd Hales for lake trout and whitefish this Saturday. Its been many years since I've fished for whitefish. We used a spreader and minnows suspended an inch off the bottom. Is this method still used? As far as lake trout goes I'm a newbie. Any tackle and fishing methods would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance

| On that side of the lake I find a #7 black and silver rapala works well. Also try a williams half and half (gold and silver). The other thing that works is a 2.5" black and green meegs with a green tube tail.

Hello IFH ...after this storm lucky your going out with an operator, the walk would be some ruff with all the new snow. Yes some people still use the minnor spreader set up but i havent seen that as much as u used to see it years ago and it still works an catches fish. The old reliable williams half n half is still a good bet too...the rapella vertical jig and the bad boy style lures all werk well too...and theres a knack to em all...i just cant seem to get on to a bad boy but my son does really well with it. He mangaged two lakers yesterday in about 20 mins ...both about 3 lbs..
Enjoy your trip out and hope u have a fish on kinna day! let us know how you make out
