recently i purchased a 1989 springbok tournament pro boat with this engine on it could someone or anyone tell me if i made a good choice as to fuel economy it also has an all terrain trolling motor on it , the reason i ask this is because my son in laws brother in law has a newer boat and motor which is an 80 horse and he tells me it cost him $45 dollars worth of feul to make a 15 minute run on the lake this sounds like an awful lot to me.
thanks hooksetter 54 P.S this is my first boat did i screw up

Im running a 1991 20' Starcraft with a 110 Mariner/Merc.
I dont think I ever used more than 25-30 bucks an entire weekend?!!?
....BUT ; Im not flying full throttle around the lake, hard to believe though, sounds like he needs a tune up!?

| I don't think you made a bad decision on your purchase at all. Just to add what DP said, it all depends on how hard you run your boat. Full out will definately consume more fuel, than if you cruise at 3500 - 3800 RPM. You can save a lot of money "cruising".

Hello Hooksetter...gotta agree with the other fellows ..i have a honda on my boat , love it ...push it to its limit...it loves gas and uses it ...cruise along a tank seems to last forever...almost like your car ...tavel 80 km comsumption lower than tavelling at 120...and .....when your comming to simcoe let us know ...maybe we can give ya a spot ot 2 to try but for now just keep shining it up and gettin ready ...still lotsa ice..stay safe

HI hooksetter54
How much gas you burn depends on a few factors. Condition of the motor, type ,2 vs 4 stroke, horse power, how you drive it and of course load. With any new to you motor you have to run a few tanks before you know whats going on. The best advice I can give you is to find your cruising speed for top mileage. Give it off the start to get her up on plane .Once up on plane pull back the throttle to the point were its just about to lose plane and then push it ahead just a hair to maintane plane .This will be you best MPG cruise speed. I too own a Springbok (older 16 footer deep vee 80 Merc) and I know you will not be dissapointed with the boat. Hope this helps
Take care
