Hi Guys,
I'm new to Barrie and new to the forum! It's a Saturday afternoon and I was hunting around for decent places to fish up here in Barrie! Planning to go out tonight and first thing tomorrow mornign.
I got my boat up here in Barrie for a few weeks and live just off Yonge and Mapleview... Boat's going back to Rice Lake for the summer so I'd like to make the best of this good ole' local fishing...
I feel blessed to be surrounded by some superb fishing lakes, but I'm not sure where to find the fish in these new lakes (Simcoe, Cook's Bay, Couchiching)
I mostly fish for walleye, bass and musky (Scugog, Rice Lake, etc); but would really like to make use of Simcoe being so close (10 minute drive!) and have never fished for Lake Trout.
I was at Cook's Bay last week ($15 to launch out of Gilford); caught a couple Pike but nothing over 5lbs...
I guess that's my first question, anything on this side of the lake with a free launch? I'd do Kempenfelt Bay, but with the price of gas I'd rather launch close to where the fish are
Next question is, without downriggers, how do I go about fishing for a lake a Lake Trout? From what I read above I toss on a Gulp Alive minnow on a jig head and bob her up and down in 40-80 feet of water? What parts of Simcoe are good?
If you're interested in Musky I've got some good spots that never dissapoint (been out 4 times this year and always get at least two per trip, sometimes as many as 4-5).
All the best yall, hope to stick around and make some friends.
Cheers,
David
