| It was a hot day on the lake but I managed to go up the lake and find the Mccrae shoal. There were a few boats fishing there. I continued up and had a look around Beaverton harbour although I didnt find Talbot Baits, but I did luck out and land a 2 pound smallie just north of the entrance in the rocky shallow water. Is it my imagination r was the lake NOT as clear as it has been up to now. Does it get a bit green now that the warm weather and the weeds are starting to grow??? Good day all:
I too was out andd about on Sunday. The waters in Cook's Bay were pretty cloudy, especially within 1 mile of the mouth of Holland River. On my journey up the river, I couldn't get over the amount of Carp floating in the river. I could easily tell you that 5-6000 from the launch to the lake would be accurate, but probably low. The stink was unbearable and the banks and the middle of the river were just covered with bodies, a sad state of affairs.
I managed to float 3 small pike, missed out on 4 larger ones (window shoppers and tire kickers) following 2-3 feet behind my lures. So, when the lake got busier, i decided to go fish the slop. The reed fields at the bottom end of Cook's provided me with 8 largies and just as many missed attempts. Water was 1.5 feet deep and all bass were clearly visable. Also many carp stinking it up too.
Anyhow, good luck to all & tight lines !

Hey ToX nice to see ya!
I too was at the north end of Cooks, everywhere you looked you could count 30-40 carp floatin......funny thing; even the gulls werent eating them..must be pretty raunchy if the $h1thawks leave them alone!

Hey Diss !
Ya, I noticed that too, absolutely none of the carp were being eaten anywhere on the lake or river.
They must somehow know they're tainted? Only explanation I can think of. A guy at my work sez the fish have picked up a "herpes" virus and that's what's killin em off!!
All I know is, the smell is revolting !!
Nice to hear from you to Horsie, hope all is well with you and your lot !
Congratz to Dok, you'll make a fine rep here on the board.

Yeah, to bad about the carp scene ... I hope they getter cleaned up fast and find the cause soon. It doesn't give ya a great feelin' when it's happening in such large numbers. Has anyone contacted the MNR yet?

Chose the Holland River for our first fishing trip since the Bass season started, and i gotta say, wish i had checked the news on the dead carp situation the night before. Seeing the dead carp floating in the marina as we launched set the tone for the rest of the day. Didn't get any bites in the holland river...maybe the dead fish spooked them all away?...but had moderate success out in Simcoe, closer to the Kesick side, lotsa smallies...but nothing worth bragging about. Seeing your pics makes me wish we had tried the reeds near Gilford instead. Oh well, maybe next week.

Hey ODB, thanks for the carp update. I thought I'd research the local and area news to see what is currently being reported. (ie) Who's responsible, What is the cause, Who's going to clean it up, What actions are currently on the go .... Well, from what I read so far, it looks like this issue is more wide spread than what I originally thought.
