Well I tested My Mustang one piece several times Last winter ... Thru the ice four times .. Twice in five minutes ..once I was WAY out by myself trying to SAVE a hut ... Just about was sqished by the hut ... Suit floated enough to actuall help me Push the little dog house hut off me ..  CELL Phone and Feet stayed dry ..  My Gloves sucked water up fast ...  I have since replaced the gloves with Ice Armor Mitts ..That's a One Piece Suit .. Been REALLY good to me I'd say .. 600 bucks SHOULD buy a good suit .. Nothing better than Staying dry AND ALIVE... Just a little splash thru the neck opening ..

VEry Important to NOT PANIC first

IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT     TO WEAR THE SUIT DONE UP PROPERLY Above all else .. if it ain't done up it will cause greef .. Even the two piece armour suit tried to 'climb up ' on the torso I seen in the video .. The Straps HAVE to be tightened ! I'll try a Summer Splash EVERYONE SHOULD ..

Summer dips are much better! Are you going to video that for us Shane? I for one, am house bound for a bit and in dire need of entertainment.

Hi Sly...ur absolutely right about the draw strings/straps...we left it that way on purpose...as you know when we see ice and fishing many race off and don't do it up the way it should be done  ...but the trial was a positive one ...btw this suit is not rated as a floater suit...it just happens to float...and you do get wet. as he bobbed around  you could see it had a lot of buoyancy and would likely hold another person hanging on...trouble is there were no others there to try that part.

Hey Horseshoe, I vote this “pick (video) of the week!! … Great safety video ... I never knew they existed until recently … Yeah, add a waterproof digi camera (gotta capture the moment!), cell phone and emergency flare and you’ll be all set. Hahaha, I could see the headlines now “Sly, Horsie and Lil'Harse breakin’ thru hard water on Lake Simcoe” … GoFishOnt to the rescue!!!!!!!!!

PS. Horseshoe, I was able to open first 2 video clips … can’t play last one. (probably my Quicktime codec not up to date!) and I’m with you Keiths … A little Sly video humor is what we need (hahaha).

did Lil Harse try or was he able to float on his stomach? I'm asking cause as you're trying to pull yourself up that would be the position to be in... I think having the legs float up in that case is a good thing, so you're energy can be in kicking/swimming to push yourself forward as you try to get back on the ice.

I'm guilty of not doing my jacket always all the way up but will do that as well, knowing the risks/benefits.

I also keep a pair of foam handled picks in a outer upper pocket I can easily get to... 'just in case'.

great video guys, it's never to early to think about safety on the water whether its hard or soft!

The whole NOT GETTING WET thing is what impressed me .. I went for a dip .. got out and still went fishing .. No issues .. No water got in . My Mitts were SOAKED but .. hey something has to be learned or it ain't worth the swim..

I do Know that When I went in ..With a SPLASH I might add, My head never got wet .. and Although the suit tried to 'pull' me onto my back . I was at stomach level on the edge of the ice when I did manage to find solid ice .. Was REAL EASY to get out .one little kick and I was wiggling like a minnow on the ice .. HAPPY to be back on the surface ..  Tommy was on shore with Binoculars and was ready to call 911 ... HE said when I waved at him his heart started again ..  I wrassled the hut back up on the ice Hooked it to the sled and drug it back to solid ice ...Cut the hole and turned the heat on .. Had to back and jump back in to get the Propane tank .. Shoulda seen Tommy When I jumped Back in .. HIS FACE cracked me up  !

Was feeling a little invincible after that !  Went back out the next day to help DAVES HUTS retrieve his huts .. NO FEAR ! ! Had a rope on Day two . ..Stupid is as .........

Sly,

That was a great video, I have been impressed with the IDI Armour Suit since I saw it on the one of the blogs last winter.  I recently called IDI to see if I could get information as to where the suits could be seen and or purchased.  The people at IDI said the suits were being distributed in Ontario through a company called KTL Canada Ditributors.  They are located at 2465 Milpower Ct. Mississauga, L5N2Z6, 905 542 0535.  There is a new model coming in September called the Armour Plus the only real difference is the new lining is like a flannel that will feel warmer to the skin.  I don't know what the Canadian price is going to be but in the States, dealers cannot sell the two piece suit for less than $299 for the Armour and $329 for the Armour Plus.  I have not contacted KTL yet so I dont know what they have in stock.  I am saving my pennies so I can get one of these suits.

Hi Acuteangler...KTL to my knowledge is a distributer for the product but you must buy it from your local tackle shop. There are several shops in the area that can get a suit for you. When we first wanted to get a suit we went thru KTL who directed us to a local retailer....Hope this helps...

Thanks for the post Horsie and Li'l harse. I was wondering how the Ice Armour was going to work. It sure looked like it worked really well. Here is hoping that is the only time that he has to try it out! I wish I know you were going to try it out... I would have put mine on and jumped in too :D.
