I was up in Lake Simcoe today just off Big Bay Point.  The lake trout are on fire!!!!!  I was alone and I got 5 within 1 hour and 45 minutes and then EVERYTHING quit.  I could not figure it out because I was going though schools of big fish.  Finally the waves started to get bigger so I called it quits.  When I pulled up my downrigger with a cheater on it.... I had TWO of those 12 inch friggin lake herring on the lures so the lake trout could not hit.  THE BASTARDS!!!!!
I only kept one because I have a Conservation Licence and that one was a bleeder.  About 6 pounds.  I got these crazy ass lures from that guy in Timmins which look like a 7 inch herring with a skirt around the head and a stinger hook free floating the same length as the tail.  A lot of the time the damn trout will just grab the tail and let go when the feel the big hook.  With this rig, they are already screwed by that point.  Think "hair rig".These things are friggin deadly on lake trout and walleye.
Lake Trout season ends September 30  so if you want to get into the fun... it has to be this weekend.
