Ok, so here is the story:
Seeing that was the last day possible for me to fish lakers, and the weather was going to co-operate, I tried to get the kid out of bed but no dice. Screw it… I’ll go by myself. I found the Tiffin boat launch with no problems at all and spent 15 minutes talking to a guy who turned out to be the game warden and we took our courses at the same college with the same instructors. (small world) Launched the boat with no problems at all and booted down the bay to BBP. Set up my down rigger at 90 feet down, with a cheater in 110 feet of water and started to troll. I had not even poured my hot chocolate out of the thermos when the rod started to dance. Killed the motor and tussled with a 5 pound Lake Trout after only 3 minutes of fishing. I KNEW it was going to be a good day.
I was getting a laker about every ten minutes for the next two hours until my arm started to get sore from cranking the ball up and down 90 feet. Got to get me some electrics!!! I figured I would keep the next fish because with my Conservation Licence, I am only allowed 1. I just passed over a huge bait ball with big hooks underneath when the rod started to do the funky chicken. I thought she was going to pop out before I got my hands on it. I knew whatever was on the other end was BIG. It was like lifting a truck and was running all over the place in different directions. At about 20 feet from the surface, I could see it and it was HUGE…. Looked like about 5 feet long!!!!! I got one glimps and it was heading for the bottom again. Ten more minutes and I could see it again and I am thinking giant musky when it suddenly broke apart for a few moments. Holy Crap…. I got not one… but TWO big Lake Trout on at the same time on the same line. I only have a small net so I had to net them one at a time and flip them into the back of the boat. One spit the hooks just as soon as he hit the floor so he went back right away but not before weighing him….10.54 pounds. The second was a real bleeder so he was destined for my dinner table at 8.8 pounds. Out comes my dads old chain stringer and I securely fasten him on with not one but TWO clips. Chain is fastened onto the boat and over the side he goes (I have no live well….it’s a small boat.) He starts thrashing a bit but calms down. I raised the cannon ball, heard a big splash and saw the chain go slack. I grabbed the chain but he was GONE!!!!!! The chain broke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been teasing Shane (Sly) for a month now about him loosing his worm harness to a big perch and me catching the same perch (with harness attached) It’s bad enough that he has problems keeping them on his line…. HELL…. I can’t even keep them when they are CHAINED to my boat!!!!!!!!!!! Coño!!!!!
If anybody catches a big old lake trout with 18 inches of chain in his yap…..I want the chain back!!!!
I can hear Sly laughing all the way down here!!!!!!!!!!!!!Attachment: BustedStringer.jpg (Downloaded 74 times)

We ALL have one of those days once in a while. We were in a tin can set up once and my budd (driving) forgot to pull in the stringer. The motor got it. Lost 2 wallleye and and a pike that would have been dinner.... oh well at least you had a good day fishing!~

I was a checking for hacksaw marks on the chain just incase the Sly One stuck it to me but nope..... clean break.
I should be up Friday for some perching. Hopefully the little bugger will be able to get his arse out of the sack this time.
Where is this boat launch you were talking about Horseshoe????
