I got an invite from Stinger to go for some salmon on Lake O so I jumped on the opportunity. I could use a lesson or two from him with the luck I been having on Lake O.

At 1 pm I met up with Stinger, said our hellos, hooked up the boat, gas and we were off to launch out of Scarborough Bluff. Stinger Set up 4 rods and we headed to some old waypoints that he had success in past trips.

A couple hours past and nothing. Things weren't looking too good and a scent of skunk was looming in the air. Stinger jumped to his feet and said "It was time to get out the secret lure." He reached down into a secret compartment under the console and pulled out an object that was well wrapped in a plastic bag. A big grin was in his face as he knew that fish was on the way. I did manage to pose for a picture with the lure but it will be up to Stinger to share the lure with the board since it is his secret Lake O lure and the pic was taken with his camera. I will however share that the lure was yellow in colour.

Sure enough once the lure was out of the bag, Fish ON!!! Stinger hands me the rod mumbling "its called the Widow Maker", with a big grin on his face. At the moment I knew my arm was in for a good fight. It was my first time fighting a fish on leadcore. Not to make things easy on myself, I manage to let the fish wrap around the downrigger rod when it was close to the boat. Stinger, the salmon pro, weaved and twisted the two tangled line around and was determined that we will not be skunk today. It was my biggest rainbow in a long time. Probably a personal best for me.

Once the line was reset, fish on. Refusing to take the rod, Stinger let me fight it. It was another first for me, on the wire rod. I could feel every head shake and movement the fish made. It was a good fish since it peeled off another 100 ft of line before I could gain anything on it. Halfway into the fight, the downrigger rod released. No choice this time, Stinger must take the fish. We both land two good salmon without any incident.

Around 6:45pm, a call from the wife so we started to troll back to the launch. A shaker decided to cap our day off to give us two fish each to even things out.

We got 4 fish today on spoon, fly and meat rig. It was another good day on the water with another great member of the board. Thank you Stinger!
