Hello everyone,

My uncle is visiting Canada from Europe for the first time and part of the bait to get him to come was to promise some fishing, which he so dearly loves.

The only problem is that I don't know anything about fishing!

Does anyone have an information on where I can rent fishing rods in the GTA region? I live in Etobicoke but I am not picky where.

Also, I want to take him to 2 day trips to destinations that are no farther than a 2 hour or so drive from GTA. Any suggestions?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Jana

Hello Jana and welcome to go fish ...I certainly hope your Uncle will enjoy his visit, You're trying hard to please him for sure. You kind of gotta give us a hint as to what you would like to fish for ...from shore or in a boat ..keep to eat or just catch and release .,,,,there'se counltess places to go and fish ..remember a licence tho ...dont need any of those hefty fines...now with all the great deals on rods and reels i'd suggest you just buy what u need ..I'm not aware of any rental places ..heck Love2Fish Simcoe did have a deal on 2 for 1 ...they advertize on the home page (button at top ) ...but you could go to CTC or walmart or any local tackle shop and get something to get you by and lord knows u may have such a blast you'll keep on fishin...Give us a few more ideas as to what you'd like to catch etc and we 'll try help you out ..lots of great members and fishers willing  to give you some ideas for sure. There are charters and all sorts of to dos ...charters usually supply all equipment ..depends on what you'd like to spend and do ...

Hey Jana, Welcome to GoFish Ont. Glad ya said hello and I hope you find a special place to take your uncle! I agree with Horseshoe for sure .... :D a few more details would be great ....

The important thing to keep in mind is that you find a place that offers you a very good chance of catching a fish. It's no fun going home empty handed!!

Generally speaking, I would inquire about renting a charter for half a day. Weather permitting, a good charter will put you onto some fish. There should be plenty available in the Toronto area. Most charters will have bait, lures etc available.

There are some members here who routinely fish Lake Ontario. Maybe they'll see this post and give you a few tips.

If you want a place to spend a couple days fishin', I highly recommend Lake Simcoe.  It's not too far away from Toronto. I just spent some time there and I absolutely loved it. What a great place to fish!!

Don't forget to come back and post your adventures OK!! We love to see your catch and hear your fish tales too!

Good Luck and catch a monster! :P droolin' ~dokdok

Dear Jana,

You could not be in better hands than with Shane and I know he has lots of extra rods..... BUT rumour has it that he is getting a little short of fishing tackle, especially worm harnesses.  As luck would have it, I happen to be in posession of a finely crafted worm harness with low hours on it that is GUARANTEED to slay a big perch IF you remember to tie the knot tight!!!

(Rolling around of the ground, laughing my ass off) JeJeJeJe!!!!!!HaHaHaHa!!!!!

I think I owe him a beer for that one!!!

Hi Everyone!

Thank you everyone for all your advice, support and humour.:) I was very impressed with everyone's helpfulness.

My uncle and aunt arrive tonight and I think I will have a chat with him on what exactly he's looking for.

I will remember to post more details on what we've figured out and to ask any questions if need be.

Cheers,

jana
