Good afternoon everyone,

Well just sitting here at work, working soooo hard. My mind is on Simcoe and the gorgeous fall smallies and northerns i have been seeing all over WFN.

I will be coming up with a 9yr old who has never really experienced any form of fishing other than off shore. i am planning on heading out of Cooks bay and see that there are various humps and sweet drop off's for me to get started at.

What i am hoping is that someone on this site can give me some insight on Simcoe and how the Smallies and Northerns are patterning this time of year, and how the fishing has been with this nice weather???? If anyone has some tips, tricks and locations i would be grateful to hear them.

It would turn a possible cold day on the water for a 9 year old into something he will never forget.

Thanks in advance,

Thanks so much dokdok, i appreciate the welcome.

The paddleboat in question is shared by my Texas friend Matt. He can't understand why all the fish up here have so many teeth. I almost had him lip a 38" Northern on Moon River. Almost was the key word there, had the video camera and everything ready, but..... no dice LOL.

Seconds after that pic was taken, the empty boxes under the display collapsed and we were uncerimoniously escorted out of the sporting goods store in Indianapolis. :P

laffin abouyt the escorted out ...u bad frigger ...lol ...welcome to go fish i hope you'll enjoy ...lotsa great people and fishers ...now the guy to hit up on the bass is likely Bigman 33 ...he pretty good at hookin em but i dont know if he does a lot on simcoe.

The bassmasters recently had their tourney and some anglers never even had a fish to weight in ...for some reason the fishing seems slower this year ..I dont target bass so i aint a lot of help ...but fer toothy guys cooks bay bottom end is usully a good area ...the guy to hit up on thats is toxxic ..hes usually into some critters ..but the weather  and seasons are changing fast and as redfisher says ...join us on the ice with little feller he 'll love it ...if fishing is off he can just plain play and have fun as a kid does ...them were the days...playing hummmmmm grinning ..i remember ...wow

anyways as time passes u'll get some info ...enjoy the board

Thanks ToX,

I am heading up to Simcoe on Sat. I was planning on launching into Cooks Bay and targeting some fat bronzebacks and of course some scrappy pike.

If you have any tips and tricks i would love to hear them. I am bringing the girlfriens 9 year old and he is pretty pumped, as am I. Might be the last time out on the boat for the year.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Depending on where you launch from, I usually hang out at the south end of Cook's as I launch in the river and come up to Cook's..

On the East side you can pick up some decent smallies, way over on the West side (can't miss the reeds) is some really good largie action right in the reeds, and I mean right in there. Use anything weedless on the top of the water. As for the pike, anything perch colour (rapalas, large spinners, big O's, Booyaa chatterbait) or floating big minnows, there is a channel in the lower middle, drops from 8 ft to 17 - 18ft. There is some good action there. But pikes are all over, just deeper for larger ones.

Good luck to ya !

Thanks so much ToX, i really appreciate it. That is excellent info.

I will hopefully have a pic or two to share with you. We are really looking forward to this Sat. It looks like i may be swinging by BPS to grab a 100 MPH suit before Saturday LOL. If things go well, i may not have to put the boat away just yet LOL.

Thanks so much for the info once again.

good luck out there Birddogin. Toxxic is on the money.

In the warmer months we like to troll from around Cooks Bay Marina and point the boat over to Keswick. The pike seem to be everywhere.. we also do well up in front of the orange marina 'barn', just north of Cooks Bay Marina (cant remember the name right now) on the west side and even just south of the first point you come to along that shore. Good pike and bass action.

regards, Mike.

yes Kon Tiki, thanks.

I think it will boil down to finding the right depth then staying there (as it always does lol).
