hello CrappieSlayer ...great to have you with us hope you enjoy the board...crappie is one on if not my most fav fish to catch or try to catch ...lol...i can bet you get some monsters your way , feel free to post up the odd picture of them slabs...we do get some nice ones in lake simcoe as well as many other areas...theres a few fly fishers here ...what area of ont do you go fly fishing and for what species ???

I do most of my fishing in Spring for Crappie in NC, then in late June/July on my 4 week fishing/golfing/family trip from Tennessee (Blue Catfish, Crappie), Michigan and Canada (Walleye, Perch, Bass). We have some good fishing holes in the mouth of Erie/ Detroit river and mouth of Lake St Clair (hump). To get to the hump you need GPS #'s to get there. But the 3-6lb Small Mouth Bass and Walleye/Perch is a lot of fun. We can go out in morning and come home with 200-300 fish from Erie. My brother has a 23ft crusier, lots of fun. If your in the area would love to take you out for some smallies and white bass. But must warn you generally when we go out we catch so many there is no time to think about the meaning of life  Attachment: Walleye.jpg (Downloaded 42 times)

Hey Crappie, Can you tell us more about your trips to the St.Clair region. I would like to fish (do the humpin') from shore! I'm assuming though, the hump your talking about is accesible by boat only? Anyway, it sounds like you know the general area pretty good. Could you share some shoreline spots on the lake or along the river? (Hell, I'd be happy catchin' 10% of what you catch in a day!!) I hope to be in the general area this summer and wouldn't mind getting my line wet while passin' thru'! ~dokdok

Hi Dokdok,
To get to the hump you need a boat. We launch about 20-30 min outside of Windsor. My brother has the town/GPS # and I can get them if you like. If your fishing from shore in Canada in Lake St Clair we use to fish in Port Lampton. There is a gravel pit there we would spend the night there and catch our limit. This spot is also know for Sturgeon so take a big poll with you. The biggest I've seen caught there we 6-7ft long female right next to the customs ferry dock. I actually caught a Steelhead there when I was 12yr old. There is a lot of parks along this area of water also that is OK fishing. Also go north to power plant, good fishing there also. I caught one Sturgeon there also, see picture. It was 2 inch above the minimum limit.

Dokdok,
It took 30 min to land fish from shore behind gravel Pitt. This is a great story about this fish. That Winter I had this dream over and over of catching this big fish at that place. A couple of time when my lady friend was staying over I would hit her in the back trying to set the hook. She would wake up and hit me back asking what is my problem. I would tell her the dream and she thinks I'm just a little crazy. I told my brother about it and he said the family does not even fish there any more since getting a boat. I begged him to take me so I can get this fish. So we went on a day that was very hot, over 90 degrees. We fished for a couple of hours and my brother -in - law bust my chops asking so where is this fish. I looked at where I was fishing and told them I was in the wrong spot. OS I moved to the far right and within 20 min hooked the fish. We didn't have a net so my brother had to go into the water and grab the fish by the tell and drag him on shore. It was the only fish we caught that day. I'll get the GPS #'s from my brother later today. It is a 20 min ride out to hump. A bunch of charter boats are out there and we saw a fishing show out there one day. They were using lures and were not catching much. We were using live shinners and ended up with 16 smallies (3 guys'). It was a bad day for me, i only caught 2 fish . Right now in the Thames the Catfish is running. My brother and some buddies caught over 100 lb the other day. Also picking up some white bass there. DO NOT GO THER WITH A SMALL POLL. He hooked one that went to the right and kept going, had to cut line. They are fishing with 20 lb line and fireline with shinners.

Winter is over and the opening is now official. Gonna go on the Bay and giver her hell today, good luck to all who are out today.
Haven't been around for a while, gonna take hours catching up on all the great posts and threads I see !!
