Made it out for an hour or so last night. Went to the speedway bridge figuring my usual spot would be hit hard by all the rainfall. Tough decision seeing as I've been hitting some good bass lately.
Didn't have much luck using a texas rigged storm worm so I switched to a glow in the dark mister twister seeing as it was getting dark and I had luck with them in the past.
I casted out a few times but got nothing. I casted out again and it kinda felt like I was snagged. I gave it a good pull and noticed whatever it was caught on was moving. So I tightened up the drag and kept reeling.
As it got closer I saw a blackish looking hump... dang I thought, I went and hooked a beaver (I had seen one earlier that night). So I kept reeling in and saw that it wasn't a beaver but a big ol' turtle about a foot or so in diameter! Poor guy I thought, let me get him in closer and see where he's caught, maybe I can unhook him. Well as I got him in closer I saw he was caught on his leg, I then saw about an inch and a half long claws, yikes! After that I saw his head snap at my lure! Yep, a snapper!
Sorry folks I do not know enough about turtles n'or did I have the proper equipment to deal with a snapper, I had to cut the line on the poor guy. I didn't know what else to do. Anybody want to suggest a better way of handling the situation if it ever happens again?

| I'm in bed sick as hell, anyway just grab the turtle by the back of his shell they're heads can't turn that far and just keep him pinned down, then use your pliers to take the hook out (every fisherman needs a pair of pliers, NO MATTER WHAT!)

I always have needle nose pliers and cutters on me at all times when I fish. It's just that I've never dealt with a snapper before and didn't feel like losing a finger! Now I know, thanks for the advice. Hopefully the poor guy will be alright.

The weather cleared a bit this morning so off I went to the Thames to get a little fish time in (on me own today)! The forecast was rain and t-storms ... thinkin' lucky GFO hat will keep me dry!
The river level was up at least 2 feet from all the rain. It made negotiating the shoreline a little risky. No soakers today thou hahaha ...
Felt adventurious so I travelled the shoreline a bit and was able to catch a variety of different fish ... no monsters but I sure had fun landing them all .. & cursed the ones (3) that got away too (lol).
I respooled me reel with 10lb mono and tied on a silver spinner and swivel, clipped on a 1/2oz weight, and 8"leader w/small hook. Baits included powerbait minnows, or small hook tipped with a bit of worm.
Here's a few pix for your droolin' pleasure!
Rock Bass ...

Golden Redhorse ...

White Bass ...

I hope you had a chance to land a few too!

| Nice fish, I find it's always real exciting when you get a new species on the hook, most of those are relatively ''exotic'', nice catching, i hope to get over this cold soon and get out there again.

Yeah, I hooked a variety of fish today. I'm glad the cooler weather has brought 'em back to life again.
Hope your feelin' better soon and please let me know if you head back to the trout pond OK. Maybe we gives it another try before the end of the Sept!
Dok (twin brother) wasn't too interested when I was there last. I'd love to try it!

nice catchs, where did you get them?
Haven't have a chance to fish here, but did some research on gooogle and found a lake, 30 kms away from my home, that should be a good place for big mouth bass. will try it out when it is not boiling hot.

Hey F_D,
Saturday was a hit and miss day. I managed to fish a couple hours before the stormy weather and that's my favorite time to fish too!
You really had to work hard to find the right mix and presentation speed. The river was so deep and fast it made fishin' quite challenging! I was lucky to land a few!
My last fish on flew out of the water about 20 feet from shore. May have been a sheepshead, lots of fight, played 'em a bit more and poof more of my tackle swimmin' in the Thames (again) ... hahaha
I hope all is well with you and the family, Love to fish Kilworth sometime ....
Sends me a PM if you gets some fish time OK!

Hey Meizi,
Glad to here your going to be exploring Texas soon hahaha. Those Large-mouth bass down there are pretty big. Make sure you strap yourself down ok ... wouldn't want ya to get hauled in (lol)!
I caught those fish in the Thames about a half mile up river from where we use to fish. I had a little freedom to scout the area today on me own!
I may have found another hot spot. I'll have to try it again when the water level comes down a bit!
I hope the hurricane weather is not causing you too much trouble.
Nice to hear from you again Professor!

dokdok,
the weather is fine here in San Antonio, no wind, only a bit rain, even less than what you have gotten in London.
Nice that you found another hot spot on the Themes, tell me where it is and save some for me. I can try it out if I come back London for a visit someday. Really miss those fun time on the Themes.
What lure would you suggest to catch big mouth?

Hey Meizi, Here's a lucky one! But it really depends on how dark the water is!!

You let me know when you come back to London and I'll show you that lucky new place! Stay cool and get fishin' soon.
Don't forget to post OK! droolin' dokdok
