Thanks for posting the pics scugog. I fish upstream from downtown near the richmond st bridge near the university. The bass were flying on the hook a couple weeks ago. I caught 11 in 4 hours. But then I went back a week later and got skunked. Just when I brought a friend to tell him how great of a spot it was. haha never fails.

So... you can eat stuff from the Thames? I always thought it was "not recommended", but I haven't actually read anything other than folklore that says so.
Have to admit though, with all the sewage pipes going into the river it doesn't really appeal to me.

According to the MNR you can, certain areas have its limits.....though with springbank dam anything from erie/SCR could end up at Labatts or Fanshawe http://www.ene.gov.on.ca/publications/590b13-SO.pdf
I've had walleye, and the catfish is waiting for a rainy day.
I'd be more hesitant on eating the bass as they live there all year long, but the ones I've caught recently look very healthy.
The best walleye I had this year was the other day out of the Thames....Fanshawe doesn't taste as good I've found...though it could be algae related there.

@scugog - interestingly the Thames River between the Springbank Dam and the Fanshawe reservoir seems to not be the most highly restricted area. I still find it a bit strange to have to watch intake of fish. When I was a kid the only thing that was restricted was barracuda in months ending with 'r'. Something to do with them eating coral at that time of the year, i think.
I'd be more hesitant on eating the bass as they live there all year long, but the ones I've caught recently look very healthy.
I wonder if there's any link between this and the dam being open for 2 years? I live just upriver from the dam... the iron bridge is at the end of my street... and I have to say the river smells a lot better these days even though I can't canoe it.

Hey rehan, where'd you catch those? Not terribly fond of trout myself, but they might be fun to catch.
Is that your bro in the pic? Doesn't look much like you.

| It's a friend, we got them at the trout farm near sparta, they've got a catch and release pond and a trout pond, they're fighters alright, fun to catch but really hard to catch.

Those are real beauties! droolin' ~dokdok
