The London Report: June 07-08

Yeah, dok¹. dok² and dok³ fished the Thames in London today. Didn't make it to the lake as planned. I like to thank dok³ for joinin' us! So we had a pretty good mornin' on the river. Good fishin',  lots of wild life, lots of nature lovers in general and lotsa' laughs!!

Here's some pics of today's events...

dok² (that's me) strikes back with a nice small mouth. Yeah, no jigs today, a bit of worm and corn seemed to do the trick!

Yeah Horseshoe, your probably right! haaha ..

Hey, I was wonderin', Why don't they swim in a "V" formation!?!

They looked like little gooze solders swimmin' their way to battle. The line went on for ever! Never seen one that long before ...

Hey, could you imagine what the fish must think seein' all those web feet paradin' across their waterpark!?! (lol)

Well, the weather finally cleared up around dinner hour, so I gave dok a call, picked up a couple of timmies and headed over to pick him up.

Destination: A night on the Thames (London)

Weather Conditions: Partly cloudy, light rain clearing with very little humidity

Yeah, turned out to be a great night to be on the river!

Water level was up about a foot and muddy from all the rain we've had.

We started using light tackle with the usual bait for this area (live worm and a few pieces of corn). This worked very well all night (6 to 8:30pm).

Small mouth bass: 4 (up to 3.2 lbs)

Catfish: 3 (up to 2.8 lbs)

White sucker: 1 (2.3 lbs)

Score: Dok= 5, DokDok=3

That's the London Report!

Catch and Release, you'll be glad ya did tomorrow! ~dokdok

Hey everyone, new member here.  I just started getting into the fishing scene here in London over the last few weeks.  I had no idea there was so many species running in the thames!  I was out a couple weeks ago near the civic garden complex and caught a rock bass and small trout.  My new spot for the last couple of weekends has been the killworth bridge (only 5 mins from my place).  I've had some pretty good catches there so far, a nice pike and a nice smallmoth bass (need to start taking pics).  There's also what appears to be a gar that likes to chase my lures but never seems to bite.  Just out of curiosity when you folks say your fishing at the killworth bridge, do you mean right below? or up the shoreline a ways?  I noticed, walking the shores, there seems to be a few spots with chairs, beer bottles etc but I never really seem to see anybody.  I think last week was the first time I saw somebody and they were across the river fishing.  Any other spots in that area that are good? I think I read somewhere the sanitorium road area is good as well.

Hey F_D, Glad you dropped a line in and said hello. Welcome to GFO.

For the most part, I know the areas that you've been fishin'  .. I haven't had much luck in Kilworth and that maybe because I haven't found the holes where there hiden' yet!. I've been out there a couple of times this year and like you, I haven't seen anyone there either. I fished near the bridge ... The garden area is pretty good, but I find that it can get a little too busy for me. If you head down stream more, you'll find deeper holes in the river. I find that Bass tend to locate themselves about 10-20 feet out from shore when there feedin in this area. Cast further out for bottom feeders. Weight your hook if the current is strong (texas rig might be best to prevent snags). Live worm and corn generally work best for me, but if their active, plastic worms, jigs, spoons are all good. I tend to stay away from spinner baits thou (too many snags!)... I have not fished the sanitorium road area. Maybe we'll see ya out there sometime ... Thanks for the tip and keep us posted!

I park at the komoka park parking lot and walk the side of the road to the paths and down from there.  Then I just walk up and down the shores, picking different spots.  Right underneath the bridge seems to always get me bites.  Although the pike I caugh a little further down.   What's funny, is spinners are my go to lures right now.  I used a mepps #3 black fury for the pike and a mepps #2 aglia rainbow for the smallmouth.  I've tried jigs, with not much luck.  I had a couple big bites using a rapala minow and another similar lure, but I didn't set'em right and ended up losing the fish.  I'm hoping to get out this Sunday to the kilworth bridge, so I'll keep you posted if I do.

Hey F.D. - Great tips to share and great report!

Yeah, if the rivers not too weedy I'll have to give those spinners a try ... love bass fishin' but a pike or a trout would be great on the line too! :P

I'm not fussy, Yeah just love the outdoors, the sounds of the running water and wildlife and the thrill of potentially catchin' a monster fish!!  ... Can't wait to get out there again soon!! I gotta score to settle with dok! He's been winning a lot lately:X

I just looked into the "texas rig" you mentioned, sounds very interesting.  I'll have to pick up some supplies and give it a go.  As for spinners (mepps anyway)  I find that if I start reeling in almost as soon as I hit the water, the spinner will sit just below the water, the longer you wait to reel in the deeper it goes.  As for worms, where can I get them?  Are there any places here in London that sell live bait?
