dokdok, sounds look you guys had a great outing, nice work! I managed to do some fishing yesterday morning.  My brother in law and I decided we would get up at 6am and hit the usual spot.  We must have fished for 4 hours without so much as a bite!  He seemed to think it had something to do with the North wind.  All I know is the river was really, swollen, murky and running fast. I'm guessing it's from all the rain as of late.  Looks like I may have to check out some other spots until things calm down a bit.

Boy did I get skunked (and wet) last night!! Timing is everything folks ...

Around dinner hour I could sense a storm was brewing, called dok and he was ready to hit the river. Got a bit of a surprise too ... my youngest boy decided to join me. That was a real nice surprise!! Grabbed the fishin' gear and out the door we go!!!!

Picked up dok and he bought the timmies ... headed to a local spot on the Thames and I couldn't believe me eyes ... I pulled into me parking spot and was about to exit the car and I told everyone to freeze. We gots company, don't get out of the car.

Well, I took another really good look, sky was darkening from the storm up above and I decided to take a chance anyway.  Air smells like rain better have another look around the car just to make sure ... All I could think is "where there is babies there are mommies too".  No sign of mommy thou!!! This is Gooood ....

Little baby skunks greeted us and we plum forgot about fishin' ...

... God are they cute.

Well, dok was getting more miserable by the minute, "Are we gonna make it to the river tonight or what!?!" he growled (lol)

Well we gots our lines wet ....

and then we gots wet so here we stand skunked once again!!

Dang it!! Half hour sooner and we would of had em' (@#$%@)

Adventures on the Thames Folks ... You never know what's in-store for ya (hahaha)

and I was really wanting to try that squirrel bait too! :P ~dokdok

Nice pics dokdok!  I've never seem them that small.  I guess all the animals are out these days, we saw a fox last night roaming around the neighbourhood, first time I've ever seen one.  That's too bad about the fish.  How's the water where your fishing, have you noticed an increase in water levels, speed, clarity etc?  I'm hoping to get out this weekend and make up for last weekend.

Hey F_D, I was lucky to see them before I got outta' the car (lol). I've had them in my back yard quite a few years ago, same size too ... my kids were picking them up like little pets before I realized what they were playin' with (lol). Yeah, I hope this recent pack still has a momma thou .... didn't see her around.

As far a fishin goes that night, we weren't out there too long before getting rained out. Water levels were down a bit from the last time I fished the thames, clarity murky, and speed was OK (normal). What I missed the most is there was very little birds, geese, ducks in the area ... they probably sensed the rain comin' (hahahaha).

I hope you make it out fishin' soon F_D, come back with some nice posts OK!! ~dokdok

I made it out this morning.  Woke up bright and early, picked up my buddy and we hit the usual spot.  The water was clear, levels were back to normal and the weather was great.  I had a good feeling going into it and my intuition was right.  I caught a beast of a white bass (as far as I can tell).  My rod was a bendin' bringing this guy in.  If I were to hazard a guess I would put it around 5lbs, he was a heavy bugger.  Sure makes up for last weekend.  Oh, and caught with a mepps aglia #3 spinner.  We also caugh a few smallmouth using worms and jigs.

Well, after doing a little homework, I figured out that it wasn't a white bass after all.  I sort of thought something was off with the way the fins looked and the shape of the mouth.  It is in fact a sheepshead/freshwater drum.  I've never caught or seen one of these guys before.  I've only really started fishing over the last few months so I'm still learning the ropes on identifying fish.  Just another of the many species swimming in Thames I guess.

Neat link!  It's always good to know there are GFO members ready and willing to help.  Like I said I'm still learning the ropes, so please don't hesitate to correct me or offer any advice.  If I make it out this weekend, I'll keep you guys posted.

Wanted - Information for a good spincast combo. Reel must be shock proof (lol)

Last night Dok  calls me up and says he needs a little shore fish. I took along his new lucky GofishOnt hat to surprise him. Thought that it would set the mood for monster catchin' time!!

2 timmies in the car waiting and we head down to a local spot. He really liked the hat but decided to wear it next time out (he'll be sorry). Yeah, we observed the water level had changed again and there was a few feet more shore (this was good!!). First cast out, dok hooks into a monster ....

... 3 feet from shore his line snaps and I thought he was gonna snap too!! (lol). A few more casts and something else slams him ... that line snapped too! Ohhhh my, I could feel the tension!!!  Did I tell ya he has quite a temper .... Have a look of this expression (hahaha)

He lost it ... slams his rod down on the rocks and I dash for cover (hahaha) Cursin' and cursin' some more!!!  :X

Yeah, you should of seen him when he picked his rod up (without the reel) ... broke the mount clean off ...

Managed to get a smile out of him a little later on when he landed this with my spare rod ...

Lesson Learned kids: Don't let yout temper ruin your fun :P and Always wear your lucky GoFishOnt hat when ya go fishin'!! I did .... Hope ya had a great day :D ~dokdok
