Made it out to Kilworth on Saunday morning. The river was pretty muddy and running fast. I couldn't hit my usual spots becasue they were covered in water so I had to walk down river a bit. I figured I wasn't going to catch much due to water conditions but I manged to catch a 1.5lb catfish and a smallmouth of the same size. I was using a berkley gulp minnow for the catfish and a mepps spinner for the bass. Not a bad little outing, all things considered.

wtg F_D. I was surprised to hear the water levels were that high in your area. The Thames has been fairly shallow in London ... which usually improves your chances for catchin' a few nice fish ... Glad ya had a fun day and nice size fish you caught there! ~dokdok

I'm begining to think that area is very sensitive to rainfall. We had a heck of a storm come in Saturday afternoon. Enough rain to get the back yard a bit flooded. I had a feeling the river might be in that condition, but wasn't sure if it was enough rain to cause that effect. Looks like it was. The week before was beautiful, shallow, clear and smooth. I guess I'll have to maybe switch things up if there's heavy rain a day or two before I plan to fish that area. I've been meaning to try some new spots anyway.

I've always lived right by the Thames river, and I've wondered, what the hell is in there?
I always saw it as a pretty dirty river, that I would never eat anything out of there, but if there is Walleye in there, I might have to give it a go

Yeah, lots to catch in the Thames ... I catch and release mine ... I don't eat them. I have a younger brother who does (depends on what he catches thou!).
Seen a nice trout caught last night. Nice size too! (See post "Civic holiday fishin") With the Thames that close, especially north of London, you'll find some quality fish ... you should give it a try!! Lotsa' fun for the young and old!!
Puts a smile on me face ~dokdok

I actually used to have a book that told me a bunch of the fish species in pretty much every body of water in Ontario, and I remember Brown Trout specifically.
I really should give it a run sometime, as I've never caught a Walleye, or a Brown trout!
I am also interested in the White Bass? I forgot all about those, and have never caught one

I vaguely remember catchin' trout, and walleye as a child a long time ago. Haven't seen one on me hook since than but times are gonna change!! Hey as a tip try using the search field at the top of the page. Try typing in the name of a species or location. You may pickup on a few spots that offer a better chance at catching one near you. Hope ya catch a monster!! ~dokdok

Hey all,
Finally I've found a fishing forum for London and the Thames!
I was wondering if anyone tried fishing the Thames at the end of Windemere Road. What kind of species have people found up there?

I've been out at the end of windermere and caught tons of Rock Bass and not much else. It is very weedy with lots of downed trees, so it's not really easy fishing, but I'm sure there are some bigger fish in there.
Also, be careful of the family of beavers that live down there.

I have never fished that area in particular, just around my place in Byron. To add to dokdok's list I have also caught a pike and a couple walleye. That's kind of the neat thing with the Thames, it's always something different. My last couple of outings I have been hitting some pretty big smallmouths around 16" or so, if I were to hazard a guess anywhere from 3-4 pounds.

Hey all,
Thanks for the info! Prompt and detailed!
I know there are smallmouth there (caught a 9 incher) as well as Northern Hog Sucker (don`t ask how I know...).
Here`s a pretty cool link I came by while browsing the internet. Its provided by the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority and displays the fish species (picture, common name, scientific name) in the Thames River system. Definitely a good identification guide.
