My father in law sent me this pic and thought the members would get a kick out of it:
This Sturgeon was caught at TWO CREEKS CONSERVATION AREA, Wheatley, ON (at Lake Erie) 11/19/2007 It weighed out at over 1,000 lbs and measured out at 11'1'. It was 56' around the girth and took over 6 and a half hours, and 4 dozen beers, for the 4 guys taking turns at the reeling it in.
Any Sturgeon OVER five feet has to be released unharmed and cannot be removed
from the water. They are brood/breeding stock and probably older than most of us.
FYI: This Sturgeon is Still alive , just worn out from the fight.
They turned him loose after the photo.

| Wow, that's huge! I wonder what they would use for bait to catch a behemoth like that?

depending on the type of beer (regular, lite, 6.5), you're fish may vary!

horseshoe..
It's an awesome fish wow!! Too bad they fished them to death at the Quinte many years ago..
Can't believe these guys weren't busted for all those beers!! I'd heard this story before, but sounds like a blast everytime..
Tho it doesn't promote safe fishing etiquette, I liked the beer part just as much as the 6 hour scrap with that dinosaur.
Here's a qoute from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_sturgeon
"White Sturgeon can live to be over 100 years old. The rate of growth is dependent on water temperature. Typically, they reach six feet long around 25 years of age."
A growth chart for Sturgeon in the attachment.

yeah.. I think this is a very typical fish 'tale' (tail?) that gets better with age.. I didnt do anything to validate it as it still makes for a nice little story.. I'm sure the reference to beers was more to make for a better story... its really not worth getting caught out there anymore..I always have a cold one in the fridge at home waiting for me.. with any luck I drink it while I clean the fish
