Hey GFO members,
I thought I'd share a fish story from the fall of last year . . .
While fishing on the Thames near Springbank park (London) last fall, my twin brother (dok) hooked into a real nice fish. We were a bit surpised because we fish this river all the time but had never landed one like this! I was hoping that maybe you could help identify the species. I've attached a pic . . . Thanks ~dokdok

Hey horseshoe,
Thanks for doin' the research! I had a look at the link you attached and I'm sorry to say that it was not a bowfin. I thought originally that it was a sheephead but the eyes on this fish seemed larger. I've attached a larger pic that may allow you to see it better. ~dokdok

Yeah Sunfish, I now believe it was from the sheepshead family. The only thing that had me wondering was that the eyes on this fish seemed larger than normal! I thought maybe it was a cross breed!!
After reading your comments thou', I did more research on the net and found this site that illustrates a close resemblance of the fish that we caught that day. Other than color, the overall features seem to be about the same!
Freshwater Drum (Aplodinotus grunniens)
Thanks for your help guys!

Hey Horseshoe,
I can remember we caught a lot of different fish that day. My twin (dok) had some fun landing it and like you said, it did put up a good fight. We only fish for the sport of it (catch and release) so it wasn't too disapointing to catch this one!
Good weather, good company, good fishin'! I hope there is more of the same this season!! ~dokdok
