Why I continue to Fish Today!

Many years ago I can remember as a child visiting relatives during our summer holidays. They lived about an hour or so away from us. I can remember doing a lot of this when we were kids. I really miss it! You see, I come from a very large family. About the only vacations that we could afford at the time was to a go camping. There was this one special spot near Brantford, ON. It was special because it brought all the relatives from the area and our family together. Boy I can remember some good times to be had there!! There were so many kids doing whatever kids do and well this really wore the parents out! I can appreciate this now that I have a family of my own. Anyways, with their patience growing thin and their hair getting grayer by the minute, they suggested that we should all go catch supper in the man made lake located on the campgrounds. Well my brothers and I didn't know beans about fishing but we were sure willing to give it a try! I think it was one of my uncles that thru' us some fishing line and hooks. Us kids rushed off to the lake and found the longest stick we could find, tide some string and hook on and we was ready. Not sure for what but we was ready. One of my nephews suggested we should dig up some worms. My dad never fished much, so I learned that day worms was the bait needed to catch them fish. So we set out to dig up some worms cause we were getting hungry! Well watching all those boys trying to bait the hook was also a learning experience for me. I didn't know what to think. I guess I was feeling a little bad for the worm, getting stabbed like that. But I pushed on, did I tell ya I was getting hungry! We all figured we should start at a small river feeding into the lake. It was a perfect spot. Nicely shaded with a cool breeze. Now I wasn't the first one to cast the bait (just watchin' and learnin'). No sooner did the worms hit the water, "FISH ON". Man, I can't even explain the excitement we had trying to get them fish to shore. I'm proud to say we ate well that night. It was the best fish dinner ever. Sure do miss those family outings. My times have changed. From that point on I was hooked on fishin'! ~dokdok

PS. I hope you tell us how you got started!!
