I fished all over largely due to not having a boat before, I would go to different lakes and rent.

I've spent a lot of time in the Kawartha's and a few spots other places such as Sparrow Lake.

Since I have a beater boat now, i'm starting to do Simcoe a lot more out of Cook's Bay and have had good fortune with the Pike this year on my 2 only outings.

Lookin' forward to more time out there, all are welcome if ya want to go out sometime.

Congrats on the boat. I take my old runabout mostly on Cooks Bay myself. The funny part is my wife always outfishes me. She takes a tried and true spinner and worm and I go through everything in the tackle box and yet I'm still pulling more fish off her hook than my own lol. This weekend she caught 2 nice pike.. about 4-5 pounds each. We were marking fish everywhere in the middle of Cooks Bay!

regards, Mike

ps: welcome to the board!

I caught 3 pike around 6ish and 1 around 8ish right at the mouth of the river. Just where the water starts to go bluish from the dirty water, approx. 8 ft deep. All of them on Big O's, chartreuse and firetiger colours.

Sturgeon and Pigeon are my favs in the Kawarthas, I also like to head to Cooks Bay Simcoe for pike. Beaverton area in the fall for those tasty perch. I won't see much of the Kawarthas until the salmon derby is over now though..as I have an addiction to the smoke from that drag..lol

ToXXiK.. I still love that pic!! Looks like she was quite a battle.. That big old green snake tried to give you the muskie bath didn't she...been there, and look out this fall!!

A muskie bath I treated my bud to.

Hey Muskie fishers,

I have a good friend who is looking to do a little muskie fishin' this summer. I found this older post that got me droolin' again ... thought maybe you fishers from up that way could let me know how the fishing has been in the Balsam Lake region this year!?! (hint, hint Fishingbarry and ToXXik 1 !!!)

He sent me this link and we were also wondering how acurate the map is ...

Hey Guys:

Ya DokDok, the map is pretty accurate. Although I haven't been on Balsam this year, a friend of mine at work lives on the lake. He went out on Bass opener for 4 hours with his son. He sez they bagged 9 muskies and 8 smallies, & 6 largies. I've always liked Balsam, has everything you need: deep, shallow, rocks, weeds, sand bottoms and every species swimmin' in her !

Good luck, look forward to some pix !

Thanks Horseshoe.  That is actually my father in law, I let him have it, my back was out of place out there, so I just drove the boat for the day hoping he would lock into one, and sure enough, she appeared.
