Hey all, I hope everyone had a great holidays. I'm just wondering what the ice conditions are like around the Barrie side of Simcoe. I'm itchin to get out there but I live in Waterloo and don't want to drive 1 1/2 hours not to be able to go out. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks all!

Muskyhunter, I have a brother in-law in Oro on the lake and he advised yesterday that he has only 2" of ice in front of his place. One poke with the chisel and through. They had open water after the last warm spell when the lake was wide open.
I'm itchin to get going for whities and lakers too but I would give it another week. Too much snow to let the cold temp. build ice.

Hi MuskyHunter ...there are several reports on the board for ice thickness and risks ,,,,the mild spell and wind basically opened up mosy of the lake its re freezing now ...heres a link to a few posts may help you decide...I also heard rumors and likely they are correct that a ski doo went thru in BBP area so caution is advised...areas like cooks bay or Virginia beach are likely your best best for now. These may help...if your commin that far wait a week is my best advice.

| It seemed pretty safe to me, I spuded everywhere I went. I felt comfortable with the conditions. I know other areas of the bay are sketchy, and I wouldn't fish them without checking ice conditions first. Everyone has the ability to make the educated decision, some people choose not too, that's not my fault.

| good going Liquid...thats what you have to do if you dont know..but way too many just wander aimlessly without using common sense...I have seen several people starting to fish there but i know as u said ice varies in thickness and could be unsafe in areas ...how to we get some to think ...guess that will never happen huh ...have a safe ice season !

There are quite a few people spread out across the ice on the Bay in Barrie right now. No idea on ice thickness but it sure looks like lots are enjoying their day.

Today, Innisfil Beach area had 7-8.5 inches consistantly everywhere we stopped. lots of black ice, some sparse snow cover. It looked frozen over to the island but one should still want to give it more time in the middle to thicken up.
Fishing reports to follow..
