So there I was, sitting in my hut in Kempenfelt bay.....for about the second hour with no fish. I can hear something off in the distance coming in my direction, but its coming out of the west side, the only spot that I dont have a window in my hut. I figure that its probably the federalli's, dropping by for a chat. To my suprise, a white honda civic, with an apparent deathwish comes driving by my window. Proceeds to go about 500m past me, stops and a man gets out and starts fishing. Now, I checked the ice when I got out today.....7.5", last I checked that wasnt enough for a car.

Every year, people go through the ice, most who do, probably know better then to have been out there in the first place in adverse conditions. I cannot figure out for the life of me, why people would challenge mother nature to a duelling match when they know they can't win.

I wish people would think before they act, this was a foolish move by whoever was driving that vehicle, by himself navagating on thin ice. These are the people that give us a bad rap.

Sorry to ramble on, but this really makes me angry, not only would he be wasting our resources in Barrie (fire dept., police, ambulance) but he is endangering eveyone around him.

It sure isn't a nice feeling. I remember sitting in a hut about 10-12 years ago and all of a sudden the hut started to sway and go up and down. I made a dash for the door and it as a guy in a 4x4 with a plow on and he drove right past me... I don't remember how thick the ice was but it was early season and the hut had only been out a week or 2.

Yes we have his brothers here on the Bay of Quinte, Sunday two trucks on the ice.

First truck came out to move a hut Nissan pickup, second truck ( a full size GMC Clubcab)brought out a single fisherman. Both trucks parked within 30 feet of the other and within 10 feet of the hut. Now the Ice on average was 10 -12 inches thick but they drove past me and at that time I was on 7 inches of ice and all the ice was covered in 6-8 inches of snow.

Good post       Bryan F

You got to wonder what these guys got for brains. Its one thing if a guy on a off road atv or sled has some bad luck and goes through, but a full size truck at this time of the year and ice conditions? I have only done it twice  to drive my van on the ice # 1 was 23 inches thick (North Bay)  and the second was only 100 ft off shore with about a foot of ice.and I thought was pushing it! Thanks for the post

Take care
