I have seen a number of postings about the legality's of having alcohol on the ice and I can't keep quiet anymore. The way I see it, with our laws and legal system they can probably nail you for having alcohol in your own home by finding some obscure law. Now as far as having liquor on the ice, yes it is illegal. Weather its in a portable or permanent ice hut or in the open. Will you get charged for an alcohol related offence, that depends on what a CO or OPP see when he/she arrives. Are you staggering drunk, are there empties and garbage lying around, are you load and obnoxious, are you being smart mouthed when questioned is there a motor vehicle parked beside your site. Then your odds of being charge are far greater compared to being discreet and using moderation in your alcohol consumption. We take a few drinks with us and keep it low keyed and have never had a problem. Now let me recap, this is my humble opinion and not fact. Am I breaking the law when I consume alcohol on the ice, yes. Am I prepared to pay the consequences, good question. I feel better now that I've vented and I'll be quiet now.

well the rules are the rules...and they make em so we can break em ...but yes I certainly agree...its not in your home or on your porperty ..personally I dont care if u have a pop or a shot ..long as ur sensible...and i think thats what our enforcement people look for. the bad part is it can affect your insurances and drivers lic out on the lake ...the ol common sense comes into play ..we got it we just gotta use it.just my pennies werths

| Ha I"am with Mike on that one but to add if you want a few swig's to keep the body and bones warm I see no harm, but if your bring out a 2-4 then your looking to drink not to fish ,I will stay away from you and thats my choice. If you try driving after and I thing your impaired all I would need is your direction and plate.

Hi Guys
The last few season i used to nip a little while fishing and never left home without it. Health reason now, I do not. I save what little amount allowed for off the ice. I still like the smell of that air freshner all you good old boys use out there lol.Guess what? My hook ups improved and I am catching and letting go more fish. Who would of thought? GOOD Post Icefishingham!
take care

~~~With me I'm a prefect I never phish and drink I always put my rod down first before picking up my glass, of branch water. Now I do know some people not to mention any names, like the Morgan clan that Capt. very bad people, and that Swish you all know him wears high boots, top hat, carries a cane, goes by the handle John Walker, never drop the soap when he's around, but you can always trust my two good buddies Jack, and Daniels to keep you safe and warm, and leave you with lic Glow
