| Got out 2 times so far Walleye caught both times bait was Minnows Worms and plastics with scent Had a chance to fish with other board members Night fishing is the best Biggest walleye was about 4 lbs so far But those smaller ones sure are tastety and put up a good fight

The Walleye are biting at Fenelon Falls Lake side above the Dam with free parking Lower White water part opens Friday at Midnight Jig heads tipped with Minnows have been working the best Biggest Walleye was about 3lbs and caught on a worm Most are pan size Night fishing is the best anytime after 10 pm Fish pictures are from a few of us fishing not just mine Now if the price of Gas and Minnows dropped life would be good     Last edited on Thu May 15th, 2008 09:57 pm by Brokenoutdrive

| I would really like to get out with yous soon Sunday is not good this time around but I know some great spots When we can hook up If yous can check out Fenelon at night its great there now but lots of snags and Jig heads lost

| This time of year no boat needed The parking is free I cast out a jig head and reel it in slow as I can and try not to get snaged on bottom When they bite it almost feels like a snag then theres weight and the fight is on Anytime yous can get up this way I would be glad to help yous catch a few in about 1 week or so they will move back out to the lakes and the Muskie will move in

HI BOD , boy i would love to get there...and one day i just may take ya up on that ...but with the price of gas and that v 8 of mine i try not to head to far...damm gas crooks ...but keep them reports commin ...helps ease the pain of the gas prices ..

If that largest pickerel is indeed 3 pounds, I would assume it would be around 20 inches give or take. That would make the smallest one barely over 10 inches.
Why would anyone keep a pickerel that small? I know there is a limit of only 1 fish over 60 cm, but it seems a bit ridiculous to keep something that small. why not through it back and let it grow?

| Better look at the regs for river fishing 1 over 18 inches and 3 under 18 inche and the smallest was 12 inches and tasted great Walleye in the Kawarthas are on the small size biggest I have seen caught was about 5 lbs Hmmm but thanks for your input

I used to fish up long lac area and a bit yrs ago and the shore lunches had them tasty size tooo ...lots like em on the smaller size ...where we were wasnt a slot tho ,..most of the 3lbs and up were released and we ate the small ones...nothing like a shore lunch !

Oh, I am very aware of the regs, that's why I said only 1 over 60 cm (18.1"). I was basing my observation on the size comparing it to the largest fish, knowing that most 3 pound pickerel are around 20-21 inches.
That leads me to another question however. If the smallest ones are the best eating and I concur as I personally like the 14-16 inchers, then why keep anything over 18"? Just because you can keep 1 over 18" doesn't mean you should. If like you say, most of the pickerel in the Kawarthas are smaller fish, then wouldn't it make sense to release everything over 18"? The fish in the 18"-24" range are the prime spawners in the system.
I like the new controls the MNR has put in place. The 4 fish, only 1 over 18" rule has been in place in Northeastern Ontario for a few years now, I have fished there and had no problems with it. But I also think that the best eaters are the smaller 14-16 inchers and this year I am making a personal rule to throw all 18"+ fish back, whether I have any on the stringer or not.
I just wonder how strong the fishery would be if the regs didn't allow any fish over 18"?

well its a common sense thing ...the rules are there to keep the common sense in check ...i have kept larger and smaller ones...sometimes circumstance dictates things and u gotta toss back a fish u full well know will be bellie up and sea gulls plucking...now thats the part of regs i dont like...but not ya can do cuz lots would say was gonna die ..so take what ya can and enjoy ...hope people use common sense and not werrie about it ...lotsa debate on rights and wrongs ...wont ever stop ... ...have a fun day fishing !!

Oh yes I agree, there are times when a fish can't be let go, it's a rarity however, but I am talking about a hypothetical situation here, assuming that all the fish you caught on a given day were healthy and can be returned to the lake.
I guess I have had a change in philosophy over the last few years personally. I used to keep pretty much every pickerel I caught, big or small. But I am going to really restrict myself now that the new regs are here to stay. It probably won't make any difference in the grand scheme of things, because there will always be poaching, but who knows, maybe it will.
I am sorting of going by what used to be said at the end of every Fishin Canada show... catch your limit, but limit your catch. To me that means keeping my share of the eaters, but letting the best spawners go back in the swim.

| After paying for gas and Minnows and fishing Lic and etc and standing out on a river most of the night I try to take my legal limit if I can Most times this is not the case in most cases a person is lucky to catch 1 in a night So I myself will always follow the rules set out by the MNR and myself I am not big on Catching fish then releasing them just to catch more I myself think allot of fish die After they are Released from stress and injury's When they could be Harvested Every fish is going to be a spawner at some point in time I play by the rules And hope others do too I fish with other fishing Persons when I go and take pictures of the nights catch combined I am not a meat hunter its cheaper to buy fish at any store then go fishing just my 2 cents worth
