Finally got some time to fish the soft water. Original plan was to head out for some whities on Sunday but with the high wind report OP and I decided it was wiser to pay Walleyedreamer a visit at his trailer. We couldnt turn down his courteous invite from earlier in the week.

Got to OPs place at 5am, and with a bit of fumbling around making sure everything was loaded in the boat since it was the first trip of the year, we were on our way by 5:45. A quick stop over for gas to lighten the load in our pocket and some coffee at timmies we were well on our way.

Got to Walleyedreamers place by 7:30, and was on the water by 8am. The morning fishing was slow with only one walleye, one rocky and a smallmouth boated by OP and me losing a nice walleye. Only saw the tail as it swam away. What else is new? My ability to land a fish has been somewhat of a disappointment as of late.

At around noon, we decided to head back to the docks and have a beer with Walleyedreamer and crew before they all head home after what seems to be a wild night of food, drinks and festivities.

After a few tips from Walleyedreamer, we head out to his fishing hole and anchored. The action was much better than the morning. Got our limit and released over a dozen or so. At 5pm, we decided another 30 min then we would pack up and head home. A few minutes later, I get a really hard hit. Called OP to grab the net, since it felt like a good fish on. Pulled it a few feet off the bottom then it would just nose dive directly for bottom. It was no walleye or pike by the way it fought. Finally got a glimpsed as a big black figure surfaced. Catfish!!!! It took OP 3 swipe at it before he could net it. Not sure if its OPs netting ability or the fish being too big. I dont think I been catching enough fish for OP to practice his netting ability, so I will take the blame for this one. The catfish ended up being my PB weighting in at 16 lb and 32 long. It was a perfect ending to our first soft water trip of the season.

Picture to follow.
