I've been watching the board traffic, and for the first time, since we started its been a 'negative' growth. Could be the change of seasons from hard water to soft water?. Don't get me wrong, we're still over 400 registered users and approximately 75% of our traffic is non registered members - so we're still doing quite well that way. I think we have a fantastic board and membership here and am very proud of how gofishont has evolved. I could have done certain things to make the membership grow like force people to register, but to me its about quality, not quantity.

I bring it up to ask the question: does anyone have any ideas on what they'd like to see here? If they're simple enough we can try them out... We've added a forum or two when we've seen the need, A chat room was requested and provided, we've involved the local businesses who have helped us with some promotions, and we have a great front page to show case the board (it will be getting refreshed soon).

Personally I'd like to see more of the smaller businesses in areas of Quinte and London areas talk to us and let us know what they have for our members as we have a good following in these areas as well.. and I'd love to see more members register from Ottawa, NorthBay, & Kawartha areas, and join in and share their reports as well.

I know we'll do a meet & greet or two over the summer, maybe one big one and a couple smaller more casual ones, and a few of us are talking about heading down to the bay of Quinte in May for some walleyes as well....

Also, if you see value in reading this board on a regular basis, please consider becoming a VIP member.. its not expensive and it helps keep the costs of running it to a manageable level.

I've always considered this a joint venture with the members here, so your input is valued!

regards, Mike.

Things a little slow.. I'm sure She will pick up once everyone starts getting out this spring. Also I believe there are certain areas (fishing areas I mean..) getting much more interest than others.

Iceguy has me peak'n & itchy watching his L. Ont. vid already.. Brother can't wait to get out there now.. Nice job iceguy!!

Nice weather perch'n from a boat on Simcoe, crappie from Scugog & other Kawartha spots, & nice eyes from the Quinte, are gonna get us all pumped. I know I've been digg'n stuff out for a few weeks now and I'm beside myself with anticipation.

All is good Mike this is a great hang out with awesome people. Bring on that nice weather so we can get those fair weather fish'n folks & kids out to wet a line, and all will be smoke'n.

I have a dollar that says my Quinte walleye's gonna be biggest posted here this spring.. any takers??

Tight lines & Great fishing to all.

Mike,

I agree with you, this is a very good board.  I have not read or heard any complaints, the members are very positive and upbeat.  If you want to attract more of the local and beyond commercial shops you might follow the fishhawk model.  They have a separate forum.  You might also have a sales area for noncommercial members to buy and sell.  You might also consider an editorial type forum where a topic of interest might be introduced and outlined by experts in the field.  Topics might be stocking of Salmon and trout in S. Ontario by thr MNR.  Some advice for us old timers on the new trends in fishing line.  I'm just getting used to Mono and someone comes out with a product called fluorocarbon.

These are just a few suggestions.  I know maintaining this site is very time consuming, Is there anyway some of the retired members could be of any help.  I will be a volunteer, I just don't know what I can do.  I do have time as I'm sure others do.

Hope this helps, you are doing a he-- of a job.

it all comes down to what people have to discuss ..  no fishing ... no fishing discussions..

Keiths has some real interesting articles on his site amd Well there even a couple Direct comments from local anglers...

thanks guys.. all great constructive comments... I appreciate the lull between seasons.. the Administrator in me, says to make it work for us hahaha.. Glad everyone is enjoying the board but its great for me from time to time to ask so that we make sure we're meeting the needs of the members here.. a good example is in the early winter we added the Weather forum as we eagerly waited for the ice to appear, and more recently, the Great Lakes Tributary area was created.  Now if I can find the necessary time to update the front page, life will be good hahaha... bear with me. the job is taking me out of town quite a bit lately...and my french is getting better! oui oui lol..

The lull of the season is showing on all BB's that I visit and this one is no exception. Well that is not true, this is the only BB that I have taken out a membership for, it is like you stated quality over quantity.

We have had Ice get togethers and softwater get togethers coming up so that will move things along a bit better in the future. If you are wanting to have an all types get together as in a GFO Day or Expo and wish to include some Fly Fishing I will be more than Happy to bring along a bunch of gear that is screaming fish me.

Gary...........................yes Patricia I am hanging up and going back to the books...lol

Hi,

I am a new member here and also new to fishing. what attracts me to the forums is mostly the amount of information which can help me to learn more and fish better. I think there are many people who are either beginners like me with no experience or experienced fishermen who are new to Canada and are not familiar with fishes and conditions and spots in north America. So what I suggest is to create an educational forum which can discuss a fish or a lake as a topic. this would be a way for people to share their experience (as they do now) in a more specified topic and would be easier to use. further more to help the admin. the VIP members can each take the responsibility for each topic to make sure that replies are accrued and topic related.

It was just a thought that crossed my mind as I was reading the post.

I also want to thank everybody in here for all the time and effort they put in this forum to make it more interesting and give people like me the chance to enjoy fishing more and more.

Thanks,

Kawkav

Hi Kawkav.. thanks for the input..

You'll notice that we are kind of organized that way now... we have a general section, plus a hints & tips area (great for the educational aspect), an offtopic area, and the rest is geographically divided (east, west, north, etc)...

We get a lot of great volunteers now giving us info on local ice reports (or lack of), fishing reports, weather info and so on..

so based on all that, we hope you're enjoying the board and finding things easy enough once you've poked around a bit...

I feel very strongly about having one main "Fishing Forum" rather than many sub-catagories. Not so confusing-ish bouncing around forums, also more exposure for all threads from accross Ontario. I personally would read every post this way, as I don't with the current setup. Just my opinion..

Hey Jon, Sometimes it is hard to catch up on all the posts but what I do is click on the tabs at the top of the main forum page and use the RECENT tab. That way it sorts all the posts instead of just the ones from one category. That way if you only hit the board once in a while you can go back through the posts to the last time you visited.

yeah.. that's a tough one Jon...... we try to not go overboard with too many groups, and the next version of the software (which is in beta testing) will allow some more levels of organization... quite honestly...i think its good to have an option to boards that just use one 'area'.. as I find I miss too many messages especially if I've been away for a few days... not sure if we can accomodate that thought.. but as peachy points out, you can use the RECENT tab,, I just tend to look for the green arrows on the groups it will take you right to the next new message... also if one is in a rush, having the groups does allow you to concentrate on the groups that really interest you and you can always go back later and catch up on the others at your leisure (or continue to ignore them).

regards, Mike.

Mike , its the time of the year as it was said in past post. A lot of members are switching over to the soft water set-ups and while they are waiting they are on the honey do list. A small % of us here on the board are chasing Rainbows or Crappie but posting any information might over crowed my all ready 10 feet spot on the river bank. The good news is when the soft water opens soon and the camping trips start the photos and story's will start again.

My advice is simple keep replies , don't let questions go on answered, yes change the look slowly on the front page. Get a few locals maybe once a week to post a photo of the ice melting on the lake so we can to see the open water coming. We need a parking and launch section maybe include cost. What about a link where one can find the water temp, but if you want me to really think about it let me know......
