Welcome aboard waubiman. Here’s my crappie 2 cents worth.
Simcoe has a healthy population of crappie, as does the Kawarthas & Quinte. The little invaders are everywhere now. I have only just begun in the last few years to hunt these tasty little buggers, so I haven’t really too many "hot spots", but a basic patten seems to always present it’s self.
Small tubes & jigs tipped with about a centimeter’s length of worm tacked onto the hook for a blood trail scent. Pink & lime green are my best colours. Small minnows are great, and maybe better than tubes and worms, but minnows can be a pain. Either of these baits fished under a slip float close to shallow cover (docks, over hanging trees, or shallow weed pockets..) works for me in the spring. They spawn in similar areas as bass, and that bugs me a little, as I have watch big male largies pulled off their bed to chase crappie baits leaving their young’ns exposed to predators.
The river coming out of Keswick is a good spot. Scugog, Cannal L, Sturgeon... all have’m..
All the best of luck, here is a link that may help your bud http://www.in-fisherman.com/magazine/exclusives/if0503_SpringCrappie/
Keep us posted, luv pictures.

| Southern Cooks/ Holland river can be good at this time. Simple white tube jigs or 2" FinS minnows can't be beat under a float. Attachment: IMG_0099.JPG (Downloaded 49 times)

No, I didn't, but I heard from local buds that it was pretty good with some slabs caught. Next time I'm up in your neck of the woods, I'll drop ya a line and we should head out for a walleye session
Take it ease
