to add to the list of things that are likely to happen before toronto wins the stanley cup
4- The polar caps will melt
5- A Blizzard will turn the saharan desert into a snowscape
6- The Mammoths will repopulate the arctic
7-Hell will freeze over
The management managed to take a horrible team and make them even worse, kudos never knew it could be done

you see.. I think I understand the problem with all you naysayers.... its like how you have to regard wrestling... you cant consider it a true sport, you have to look at it as 'entertainment' lol. And for the Leafs, its most entertaining in the SUMMER months!
Let's face it.. what other team in pro sports can be in the papers almost daily in the off seaon and provide the fans with so much entertainment.. You really wonder what's going to happen next. I swear the off-ice Leafs provide more value than the on-ice version.
Going back as far as last years trade deadline:
- specific Leafs refuse to waive their no-trade clause? Why did so many have this clause, and where are they now? all gone but one (Kubina).
- a healthy viable #2 goalie (Raycroft) is shipped out in favor of one that considered retirement (this is almost the same thing - but with a paycheque)
- Tucker - who bled the blue and white as they say: gone. Taking a bag full of Leafs cash.
- McCabe - gone and very much richer for his last two years with the Leafs.
- Sundin - apparently is holding up the entire NHL to some degree (if you read certain reports) and has now signed on to be spokesman for an online Poker Site (pokerstars.net??). Apparently he has completed a commercial for them even. So with giving Sundin every ounce of credit and respect he might deserve... this shows where his mind is at. Not knocking the guy except to say 'Make a desicion!'. Something is making him hold off on offers from the league (7 million from the leafs for one year to be 'loyal' and 20 mil for 2 years from Vancouver to be the hightest paid player.)
- Unknown players (Finger) are brought in at star level contracts
- Scotty Bowman who they coveted a year ago, is now with the Black Hawks no matter what he said about wanting to stay with the Red Wings.
- Not much on the Burke front these days but that was some solid entertainment for a couple months to see if they could pry him away from the Ducks
- etc, etc. I'm sure there's more to the list but you get the point.. its been a great hockey Summer! now time for the season to end, let them play a few games and we'll look forward to more antics next year!
Now having said all that, I wish the new team all the best. Game on!

well i'm not a leafs fan, if you support a team and pay to see them in action (which is like 150 bucks or more in toronto) you are expecting to see a good result, it's a product they're selling you and for the leafs to suck as much as they do is a rip-off. Would you pay for a car with 3 wheels? Anyway especially toronto which is one of the wealthier franchises to put together a sucky team with even suckier results is dissapointing.
and as far as i'm concerned Sundin is a glorified loser. I have very strong views on this, there are a bunch of other teams that do it right and play like there's no tomorrow that re worthy of a following because of their commitment and not just plodding along with their huge paychecks

Well, you make some valid points Re-hanb.
From a personal level, what I've read so far about the challenges of the club and the changes that have been made thus far, it may not amount to a hill of beans as compared to some other clubs. You might be able to say that about any team!
But I've seen worse, and whether the focus has been short or long term goals, at least they appear to be moving forward.
I hope that Toronto gets the fans behind them this coming year. It will be great for the cities economy, great for the franchise and great for the players motivation.
I'm excited about the upcoming NHL year and I can hardly wait to see the teams get started! There will be time to criticize but for now like Mike says, "lets get the game on"!!!!
As a reminder I've been a Detroit fan for many years
I'm always looking for more fans! ~ dokdok

| well personally I'm a devils fan, my girlfriend is a wings fan and I myself do usually support them unless their playing the devils of course. That said I think Toronto should implement the performance=pay philosophy, that is, if the players play half as good they should get paid half as much (Frankly i think it should be that way for most sports) and then see how their performances improve

I think I like that idea! Who would regulate it!?!
I wonder what the pros and cons are to something like that?

Is there a system currently used in this or other leagues?

Great News - Doug Gilmour looks to new career phase ...
Nearly five years to the day after he reluctantly closed the curtain on a splendid two-decade-long playing career, Doug Gilmour anxiously awaits the advent of his next phase in hockey, this time behind the bench.
"Nervous? Not at all," confirmed the recently appointed assistant coach of the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.
