I am new to Lake Simcoe this year,  I keep my boat at Cooks Bay Marine and have been out on the lake 8-10 times.  My initial impression is the absolute beauty of this body of water.  My wife and I have boated most of the Trent and Rideau systems over more years than I like to remember but we have never spent any time on Simcoe other than to go through the Narrows at Atherly to perch fish.  We have spent several days just meandering along the shoreline and the circling the many islands just taking in the serenity of this lake.

I have not done any extensive fishing other than several forays to the top of Cooks Bay for some whitefish and casting and trolling in Cooks Bay for some pike or smallmouth.  My score to date has been two whitefish on jigs in 80fow and several pike on yellow and black spinner baits about a half-mile in front of Crates in 9-12fow.  I was casting at the time one of the pike weighed in at 9.8lb.  I have had no luck with either large or smallmouth bass.

Any suggestions as to what is not being done or what should be done to be successful would be appreciated.  When I was going by different islands I marked a lot of big fish in the middle of a school of bait fish.  This was usually in 20-30ft depth  my initial reaction is that these fish are either walleye or smallie.  I tried a jig with a twistertail but have had no takers.  What kind of fish are these and what should I use.  Please help.
